India set to become Asia’s first country to reach Mars and make history

Current Affairs

ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan has confirmed India’s Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission) is on it’s way to Mars without any problems. ISRO now has a major task of injecting the MOM into a Mars orbit as it catches up with the red planet on September 24th.

The ISRO chief said the commands for the insertion have already been uploaded and everything is expected to go fine. At about 7:17 am on September 24, the orbiter’s engine will commence the burn to take the spacecraft into orbit about Mars according to ISRO. If there are any errors after the commands are executed and the main engine is fired, there’s plan B which involves firing small thrusters to correct the errors.
