ISRAEL PALESTINE ISSUE

In news:

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), has said that Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem violated international law, and its presence in Palestinian territories should come to an end “as soon as possible”.

About the issue:

Israel has occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem since the Six-Day War in 1967. Prior to this, the territories were under Jordanian control.

About ICJ:

• It is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN).

• It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946.

• The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands).

•The Court is composed of 15 judges, who are elected for terms of office of nine years by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council.

•Its official languages are English and French .

2. Nipah Virus Disease (NiVD) 

News:

• Nipah virus infection is a zoonotic illness that is transmitted to people from animals (such as bats or pigs), and can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly from person-to-person.

• Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are the natural host of Nipah virus

• Nipah virus was first recognized in 1999 during an outbreak among pig farmers in, Malaysia.

Symptoms:

• It includes fever, headaches, myalgia, vomiting and sore throat.Treatment

• There is no treatment or vaccine available for either people or animals.

3. World heritage commitee

About:

• India is hosting the World Heritage Committee Meeting for the first time.

• The World Heritage Committee meets annually and is responsible for managing all matters on World Heritage and deciding on sites to be inscribed on the World Heritage list.

• The logo of the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting is inspired by the World Heritage Site of Hampi.

•The tagline of the logo is सह नौ यशः which means in English as ‘May our Glory Grow’.

4.Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM)

News background:

• Kerala government has issued technical guidelines for diagnosis and management of amoebic meningoencephalitis.

Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM):

• It is a rare but lethal central nervous system infection of rapid fatality caused by free-living amoebae found in freshwater, lakes, and rivers (never in seawater)

.• It is usually caused by an infection with Naegleriafowleri, a microscopic amoeba commonly called a “brain-eating amoeba

• The amoeba enters through the nasal channels and destroys brain tissue, causing severe brain swelling and death in most cases.

• This disease occurs more often during the warmer months of the year and in warmer climates. Treatment : At present, doctors treat it with a combination of drugs, including amphotericin B, azithromycin, fluconazole, rifampin, miltefosine, and dexamethasone.

5. Budget session started

• The Monsoon session of Parliament, also serving as this year’s Budget session, will begin today.

About:

• India does not have a fixed parliamentary calendar. However, The maximum gap between two sessions of Parliament cannot be more than six months

• By Convention, there are, usually, three sessions of the Indian Parliament in a year – Budget Session, Monsoon Session, and Winter Session.

1. Bamboo

News:

National Symposium on Bamboo’ was held to promote sustainable rural
livelihoods, women’s empowerment and climate resilience through bamboo

farming.

About Bamboo:


Bamboo is the perennial and most diverse plant (more than 1200 species in world) belongs to subfamily Bambusoideae of family Poaceae. Found in tropical, sub-tropical, and mild temperate regions. 


Distribution: In India, Bamboo is found naturally throughout the
country except Kashmir region. 
North-Eastern states and West Bengal accounts for more than 50% of Bamboo resources.

Uses: Construction material, Textile fibers, Musical instruments,
Furniture etc. 


Environmental benefits: Rapid carbon sequestration, Soil erosion control, water purification etc.

 2. Article 361

News:

Supreme Court agrees to examine constitutional provision granting
immunity to Governor

About Article 361:


It’s an exception to Article 14 (right to equality) where Presidents or governors are not answerable to any court for the exercise of powers and duties of their office.
However, Parliament can review the President’s conduct through designated investigative bodies. (Article 61)
They have immunity from criminal proceedings while in office and cannot be arrested or imprisoned by court order while in office.
Civil suits against the President/Governor require two-month notice before filling.

3.Uranium contamination in water

New study by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) scientists has concluded that concentration of uranium up to 60 micrograms per litre (µg/l) in drinking water was entirely safe. 
However, in 2021, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had revised the acceptable level of uranium concentration in drinking water from 60
µg/l to 30 µg/
